Jazz Notes at The Treble Clef Jazz Lounge

The bucolic setting is unusual for a jazz venue, but there we were on Sunday 28 May, at The Treble Clef Jazz Lounge in Chirnside Park.

It was a real treat to have three singers: Delia Gawthorne, Jan Blake and Luella McCormack (making her debut). Their three very different voices were backed by Ann Craig (flute), Kevin Blazé (guitar), Andrew Eames (bass), Rob Mercer (drums) and enthusiastically received by the large audience (standing-room only!).

Jazz Notes at The Treble Clef – introducing our singers

We’ve been rehearsing with our singers and it sounds like it will be an exciting afternoon at The Treble Clef: Jazz Notes with three very different voices!

Although she is a newcomer to the jazz scene in Melbourne, Delia Gawthorne has performed on a variety of international stages including several well-known London jazz clubs. You can hear Delia at deliagawthorne.com.

Well-known at The Treble Clef, Jan Blake has sung in a range of venues and ensembles, including her own band, Body And Soul. You can hear Jan on YouTube. For example, this one: When A Woman Loves A Man.

New to jazz, Luella McCormack makes her debut at The Treble Clef.

Jazz Notes makes the newspaper!

One of our fans sent this article from The South Gippsland Sentinel-Times (March 13, 2013, p. 15):

Some of the highlights of the 20th Inverloch Jazz Festival weren’t even on the program, like this put together band in the Marquee on Sunday night featuring sublime vocals, inspiring flute, drums, guitar playing.

Not mentioned was the bass and not seen were the drums, without whom there wouldn’t have been a band!

Ann Craig (flute)

Kevin Blazé (guitar)

Jazz Notes at the Inverloch Jazz Festival 2013

Sun, 10 Mar 2013

The last set of the night and the temperature had dropped to bearable!

A good mix of quiet numbers and some up-tempo songs to an enthusiastic audience.

Alan Richards was kind enough to play drums for us.

Jazz Notes at the Eltham Jazz, Food & Wine Festival

Sun 24 Feb, 2013

It was in the middle of a heat wave but the audience had gathered early in the marquee and there was good involvement – especially the dancing children.

We were delighted to see some familiar supporters in the crowd, including Andrew from Canada, friends from the ‘Jazz Drive’ days and members of our families.

Parts of the event were broadcast by Plenty Valley FM and Kevin was interviewed after the performance.

Thanks to Joe for inviting us.

Gala Dinner, Marysville Sparkling Wine Festival, Lake Mountain

On the eve of the Melbourne Cup, 150 guests gathered at the Lake Mountain Alpine Resort for the presentation of awards for Australia’s best sparkling wines.

Set in the strong landscape of skeletonized trees killed by the heat of the bushfires of Black Saturday, 2009, this was a striking venue.

The wines were accompanied by a gourmet dinner and the music of Jazz Notes, playing a range of vocal and instrumental jazz along with some pieces from the pop repertoire.

  • Ann Craig (flute)
  • Kevin Blazé (guitar)
  • Andrew Eames (bass)
  • Rob Mercer (drums)

Jazz Notes at Bar Oussou 04 Nov 2012

With Juliane suddenly indisposed through illness, we were fortunate indeed that Marge Hamilton and Chelly Parisi were available to step into the breach. And they carried it off very well with enthusiastic renditions of some of our repertoire as well as some songs that we hadn’t tried before.

So, for our last Sunday at Bar Oussou, our line-up was:

  • Chelly Parisi & Marge Hamilton (vocals)
  • Ann Craig (flute)
  • Kevin Blazé (guitar)
  • Andrew Eames (bass)
  • Allan Smith (drums)

Bar Oussou, 653 Sydney Road, Brunswick (see map)
