Sundays with Jazz Notes at the Ringwood RSL

From Sunday 9 August, Jazz Notes will be playing Sundays 2-5pm at the Ringwood RSL.

We’ll be playing as a trio and looking to explore some musical colours as well as covering a variety of music.

There’ll be the usual jazz and pop and, if the audience is receptive, might something a bit more classical. Of course, we’ll take requests.

The Ringwood RSL is located directly over the road from Ringwood Station and the bus interchange. There is also plenty of parking.

So why not make Sundays at the RSL your new thing!  Nothing like LIVE music to soothe the soul.

Jazz Notes returns to Burrinja Café

Burrinja Café has undergone renovation and change of management. During that time, there was no live music.

Jazz Notes opened Burrinja’s Sunday afternoon program on 28 June 2015.

It started with Ann Craig (flute) and Kevin Blazé (guitar). They were joined by Daniel Pickard (bass) and, for the second set, Wade Morgan (vocals).

Training with the Ann Craig Trio

The Ann Craig Trio was invited to play for the Castlemaine-Maldon round trip.

We were not prepared for the considerable sideways movement as we journeyed. Brace yourself!

Ann Craig Trio at Castlemaine

The Ann Craig Trio had two sets in stationary venues!

The first set was in Run, Rabbit, Run which has a central atrium, making it challenging for photography. The Trio was also asked to fill the previous spot, for which we were joined by Ange Strickland (vocals).

Lot 19 is an art space outside the town and is a good setting for a quiet evening set.

Jazz Notes at La Niche

It was a fun night at La Niche. Very relaxed.

Intimate (squeezy): Kevin had to find a new way of playing the guitar to avoid hitting Ann!

Antony joined us for a couple of songs.

Thanks to those who came along. From the sounds of things, we’ll be back!

Jazz Notes Trio – Castlemaine Jazz Festival 2014

Kevin was originally scheduled to play in a guitar duo but illness interfered.

Ann Craig (flute) stepped in and, on Saturday night, we were joined by Brian Paulusz  (who was available to play guitar at 5 minutes notice but for only 20 minutes), giving Frank O’Brien (bass) just enough time to travel from his previous set!

On the Sunday, Ann, Kevin and Frank settled into some playing when Anne Hayres appeared, joining the trio with some vocals.

On both occasions, the audience was enthusiastic and supportive.

Jazz Notes at The Treble Clef

Ann and Kevin played a relaxing Sunday afternoon set at The Treble Clef Jazz Lounge and were joined again by Risa Kodani (vocals) for a few songs. (We’re told that singing is good for babies in utero!)

On Sunday 16 February, Ann Craig (flute) and Kevin Blazé (guitar) whiled away the afternoon at the Treble Clef Jazz Lounge in Chirnside Park.

We were joined for a few songs by Risa Kodani – and hope we can do that again sometime soon!

Mayoral Art Exhibition

On Wednesday, 4 December, 2013, Jazz Notes played at the opening of the Mayoral Art Exhibition at the Maroondah Art Gallery.

The exhibition was presented by the Croydon Branch of the Bone Marrow Institute to raise funds for research into leukaemia and associated cancers.

We were delighted when so many people took the trouble to tell us how much they enjoyed the music! (We enjoyed it, too!)

Manningham morning tea for 400 people

On Friday 11 October 2013, the Mannigham City Council hosted a morning tea as part of the Victorian Seniors’ Festival.

During the morning tea, there were two musical acts on stage, performing to a full house of some 400 people:

  • Nicole Wallace, soprano, singing mainly opera
  • Jazz Notes

The day ran very smoothly (thanks, Anna) and it looked like everyone had a lot of fun. We certainly did!

Thanks to David Ng and Manningham City Council for the photographs.

Jazz Notes play at opening of Warrandyte Community Centre

On 16 September, the Hon. Ryan Smith MP opened the renovated Warrandyte Community Centre.

The crowd braved the miserable weather and was rewarded by the delightful, new building, wine and canapés and, of course, treated to the music of Jazz Notes!
