Caught In The Act! at Port Fairy Jazz Festival 2024

Caught in the Act! played two great sets at the Port Fairy Jazz Festival 2024.

With welcoming crowds and a great vibe, our repertoire was very well received. We love the interaction between the band and so did the audience.  We are not just a band, we are a group of friends who respect each other.

If you haven’t been to this terrific festival, put it on your radar for 2025, or if you can’t wait until then, come along to Jazz on Sundays, each month, at the Ringwood RSL. Commencing March 17 1:30-5:30, its a great afternoon of live music and terrific entertainment.

Pippa Wilson with Jazz Notes at Port Fairy Jazz Festival 2024

As always, Pippa delighted the audience with her trademark friendly, sometimes cheeky, but always a professional performance, and THAT VOICE!.

The two sets were something to remember with standing room only in the Sentinal and a full house at the Reardon Theatre.

As always, Jazz Notes allowed Pippa to shine, bringing some extra pep to her crowd pleasing favorite songs which we all know she performs so well, and even some new songs to her already extensive repertoire.

We are so appreciative of the mutual musical love we all share and always look forward to backing Pippa Wilson.  Don’t miss her at the next festival which will be in Castlemaine – King’s Birthday weekend, 7-9 June 2024.

Pippa Wilson with Jazz Notes at the South Coast Jazz Festival, Goolwa

After a few winery stops and some shopping, we were off to Goolwa and with the band sharing a house, there were some very funny evenings, indeed!

The sun was shining for the very first gig of the Goolwa Jazz Festival, with Pippa playing to a full house in the Centenary Hall, a few teething issues with the PA which were sorted out by our next gig and a very engaged audience set us up for a fabulous weekend.

We were very lucky to have this venue for all four performances with Pippa. Goolwa really knows how to treat their guests.

Caught In The Act! at the South Coast Jazz Festival, Goolwa

Caught in the Act! Yup we were there and were caught having way too much fun.

Great music and we sold quite a few copies of our album, ‘Pretty Eyes’, so we were very happy about that.

Special thanks to Ashley for making the quick trip (1600km) up and back to allow Caught in the Act! to perform with its complete lineup and all for 2 sets!  That’s commitment!

Pippa Wilson with Jazz Notes at Southern Jazz Club, Adelaide

October was such an amazing month for great gigs with Pippa. Our first time heading to South Australia for a Jazz Festival and the Southern Jazz Club in Adelaide. We all had so much fun and the weather was delightful.

The Southern Jazz Club hosted Pippa with Jazz Notes and the audience certainly got a great show. Some of the audience commented how they have wanted her at the Club for many years.

Pippa was in top form and Jazz Notes supported her with the confidence she has come to expect from us. We are a friendly bunch and that shows on the stage always. We were so thrilled to be able to combine this trip to SA for these two very memorable events.

Caught In The Act! – Catch us at the Phillip Island Jazz Club!

CITA has been working hard building on our vibrant Latin/jazz repertoire during 2020 and 2021.

At the Inverloch Jazz Festival in 2020, we gladly accepted an opportunity to pop up in the outdoor tent and entertain the passing crowds. We were happy that so many passers-by stopped and stayed.

In the audience were some of the committee from the Phillip Island Jazz Club and weren’t we excited when they told us they loved it! And asked if we’d be interested in performing at their club. Of course, it took Ann all of 3 seconds to say yes!  COVID got in the way of our 2020 appearance but we’re heading there on Sunday 21st March.

Although sax and, especially, flute feature in the band, each instrument plays a vital role in the band so that it functions more like a little big band with a wide spectrum of tone colours overlying the strong rhythm section.

In addition to our Latin/jazz music, we’ll be playing adaptations of standards and a couple of gentle songs from the 1930s.

Our line-up comprises Ann Craig (flute/tambourine/shaker), Ashley Thomas (sax/clarinet), Kevin Blazé (guitar), Malcolm Hornby (piano), Frank Morgan (bass) & Simon Atkinson (drums).

You can see more of our band at www.jazznotes.net.au/ or check our Facebook page ‘Jazz Notes’.

We’d love to see some of our Melbourne friends join us on the island.

Lunch & show $38 includes comp wine/beer. Lunch at 1:00pm.

Ramada Resort by Wyndham, 2128 Phillip Island Rd, Cowes, Phillip Island 3922

Bookings essential: 0432 814 407 or 0417 416 300

Now there’s a two more things to check off the bucket list: an overseas trip and a gig on an island.

Catch us at the Phillip Island Jazz Club!

Pippa Wilson with Jazz Notes returning to the Victorian Jazz Club

We last played at the Victorian Jazz Club when Pippa invited the Jazz Notes Show Band to back her in Feb 2020. It was one of our last gigs for the year. Luckily, things are turning around now and we are looking forward to joining Pippa again at the VJC in March.

It’ll be a great night of jazz with the fabulous Pippa Wilson backed by Ann Craig (flute), Kevin Blazé (guitar), Todd Sidney (keys), Leon Heale (bass) & Dean Cooper (drums)

Saturday 27th March, 8-11pm at the Clayton RSL, 171 Carinish Rd, Clayton 3168. Meals available

Bookings are essential: 9570 5884 or 9874 8870

Caught In The Act! at Britannia Mall, Mitcham

Britannia Mall

Bringing the musical fun that we had at our monthly open mic afternoons to an outdoor setting at the Britannia Mall, 487 Whitehorse Rd, Mitcham 3132.

Thanks to the House Cats (aka Caught In The Act!) and a whole bunch of our musical friends, we celebrated bringing fun music to the people.

See us again on Saturday 17 April 2021, 11am-1:30pm. Caught In The Act! will play at 11 followed by other acts.

Thanks to Michael Frost for making the contact with the council and arranging all the “official” stuff.

Free, outdoor event.

‘Pretty Eyes’ played by Caught in the Act!

Caught in the Act! in rehearsal.

Here’s our version of Horace Silver’s 1965 tune, Pretty Eyes.

We hope you enjoy this exciting jazz waltz, based on Dee Dee Bridgwater’s 1995 recording from her album, Love and Peace: A Tribute to Horace Silver.

Like the Jazz Notes Facebook page to be informed of more videos coming up.

Recorded at home in 2021 and featuring the band’s new line-up. Introducing Malcolm Hornby (piano) with Ann Craig (flute), Ashley Thomas (sax), Kevin Blazé (guitar), Frank Morgan (bass) and Simon Atkinson (drums).

Building Bridges played by Caught In The Act!

We were so happy to be able to include this bonus track on our recent CD, ‘A Smooth One’.
After recording all the tracks for our duo album at Homestead Studios, we asked the rest of the band to join us to record one of our favourites, Building Bridges, and we shot some footage from the session.
Building Bridges is one of our fast-paced, Latin tunes featuring flute and sax playing a tight lead with solos from flute and piano over the driving rhythm section making for a really interesting cover of this Memo Acevedo tune.
The repertoire of Caught In The Act! ranges from smooth, funky jazz to fast up-beat Latin tunes with energized rhythm: always making for a fun gig – full of energy!
